Frequently Asked Questions
Are HCS teachers certified?
Our teachers are certified through the NCCSA, the state chapter of the American Association of Christian Schools.
Does HCS participate in End Of Grade testing?
We conduct standardized achievement testing every spring, but we do not participate in the state’s EOG testing. The standardized test results do not determine whether or not a student passes his/her grade; they are conducted to reveal a students’ individual strengths and weakness and to provide a tool for curriculum evaluation. HCS students perform well above national averages each year. To obtain specific data about test results from previous years, please contact the school office.
What is the student/teacher ratio for each class?
The ratios differ from class to class, but the average ratio is 12:1 in JH & HS and 21:1 in the elementary school.
How many fundraisers are held each year?
One or two school-wide fundraisers are held each semester. The proceeds are for extra items that are not covered through curriculum costs.
How are parents made aware of their students’ grades and academic progress?
Report cards are issued for each grade (K-5—12th) at the end of each 9 week period. In the elementary classes, the teachers send home weekly test folders with the students’ graded tests. JH and HS students are issued tri-weekly grade reports every 3 weeks.
